Project Safe Striving for an Abuse Free Environment Choctaw Project SAFE (Striving for an Abuse Free Environment) is a prevention program that provides community awareness and services to Native American victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. Our goal is to enhance the safety of children, youth and adults by supporting activities uniquely designed to address and prevent these crimes. The Project SAFE prevention program covers a 10 ½ county area in rural southeastern Oklahoma. Primary areas include Bryan, LeFlore and McCurtain Counties due to the high number of domestic violence incidents and domestic violence deaths. Project SAFE was originally awarded in 2006 by the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women. Continuation of the grant program was awarded in 2009 for another 2 years. |
